Translation: A fisherman who fools around in shallow water take home po'opa'a fish.

Explanation: Said of one who prefers doing the easy instead of venturing into something harder and more profitable. The po'opa'a (hard-headed) fish is easily caught with a hook and line.

Why I chose to be in Education?

I have the desire to be an educator because there is a great teacher shortage. I want to be a Hawaiian Immersion Program teacher. The Hawaiian Immersion program is setup for students of any race here in Hawai'i to be immerse in learning the Hawaiian Language. Instruction in the class is taught in Hawaiian. The purpose of this program is to help revive and perpetuate the Hawaiian language. In 1896, the Hawaiian language was banned from schools causing a major decline in the Hawaiian culture and language. I want to help in the preservation of the Hawaiian language because I feel that it is vital for the Hawaiian people and as a Hawaiian I feel that it is my kuleana or responsibility to do my part in preserving our language.

I really appreciate your desire to be involved in this teaching venue that many may view as a "dead end". It's your spirit and drive to continue the Hawaiian language and traditions that is so needed in education today.

I really like Hawaiian culture and I think it's beautiful. I have a house mate who is Hawaiian and she tells me all the cool stuff about Hawaiian culture and shows me hula. I myself have danced hula and I really appreciate the culture. So, I am grateful for your desire to save this culture. The world will appreciate what you do.

Wow I give you props for wanting to do that I love our culture and I do want it to be revived and embraced but I don't know if I could do that. So good job and I hope everything works out for you to pursue that goal. I really look up to you for wanting to do that.
